It's the day after tomorrow. Sunday December 14, 2002... It's the White Rock Marathon.
My friend Jeff and I have been training for the last 6 months for it. I've been slacking for the last few weeks, but I'm ready, and I'm going to do it. I don't have any kind of goals for time or anything, I just want to finish.
The weather is supposed to be perfect for it, pretty cool, getting up into the 50's. I just hope it doesn't rain, which may happen. Is so, I can bear it. I'm just hoping for dry cool weather. The half marathon was dry, but it was hotter than heck for November, up in the high 80's. I also drank about a 12 pack the night before, which I won't do before this one.
I'm ready to get this done... It's one of those things I'm doing to prove that I can. I'm doing it on my own terms and for me. I just hope it doesn't kill me...
In the last week, I've had some near-miss leg problems that could have really got in the way of this. I had an ingrown toenail that had me walking on my heel, but I cut it out. Hurt like hell, soaked it, cut on it again, and now it feels OK. Twisted my weak ankle (left one), and luckily I was close enough to the wall that I caught myself before I put enough pressure on the side to really hurt it. The last near miss was just funny... I slipped on a bannanna peel. Really. Just like on the cartoons. I was out near the loading docks, and someone had tossed one on the ground. I stepped on it and whoosh! Major slippage. Yeah, it kinda hurt, but I caught myself OK, and I found it to be quite humorous. Too bad there was nobody else there to laugh at me.
Keep me in your thoughts and prayers... I'll need all the help I can get.
More details afterwards.
